Food Art Activism
This perpetual, month-by-month almanac uses original artworks by illustrators Justine Kelley and Nicole Medina to introduce and create relationships with what local farmers are bringing to market. Poet Rachel Betesh evokes sensory experiences of each month.
Other producers without whom Phully Rooted would not be as correct, as beautiful, or as comprehensive are Meg de Brito; Christa Barfield & her team at FarmerJawn; Carly Dougherty of Food and Ferments; the whole teams at Dirtbaby Farm and South Philly Food Co-op, Ceylan Akturk and Christo Wood.
Without Grants from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and the Scholler Foundation and sponsorship from the PA Department of Agriculture's PA Preferred Program, we would not have been able to pay living wages to the folks who created Phully Rooted.
Phully Rooted is 13" wide x 19" tall, printed in Philadelphia on 100lb enviro cover stock. It is meant to last many years. It includes 15 illustrations of original wall artwork; Recipes, poems, and seasonal observations through all 28 pages; Notes on how to preserve local produce; Space to make your own notes from month to month and year to year; A hand-drawn map of where to get local produce and composting resources in Philadelphia.
